Henry (full name Henry Lau) was born to a Hong Kong father and Taiwanese mother. He grew up in Toronto of Canada, attending school there straight into the end of high school. He auditioned for SM Entertainment in 2006, and ended up being one of two people chosen to be recruited out of the 3,000 that auditioned.

The talented young man was very skilled in anything to do with music or performing. He could play the violin, piano, drums, guitar, not to mention sing, pop, breakdance, latin dance, ballet, beat box, rap, compose and write songs, act, and sing. His original dreams was to become a professional violinist, however, signing with SM soon changed that.

In 2008, a sub-unit of Super Junior debuted for the purpose of promoting in China. Super Junior-M (where the "M" stands for Mandarin). The group featured members Si-won, Ryeo-wook, Gyu-hyeon, Dong-hae, Henry, Jo-mi, Eun-hyuk, and Sung-min. Han Geng was originally a member, but he soon left the group. Super Junior-M grew to be quite popular in China.

Henry then took a break from the entertainment scene, but not from music. He attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts of the US in 2010. He started dabbling in songwriting with some of the other SM artists. He also performed at Super Junior's Super Show 3 & 4 tours by rearranging Justin Bieber's "Baby".

Henry continued to release songs over the years for Super Junior-M, not to mention he participated in various SM project albums/singles. He was also cast alongside Michelle Yeoh (a Malaysian actress) for the movie "Final Recipe.

Come 2013, Henry finally got his big break. In addition to new releases for Super Junior-M and a spot on the reality show "Master Chef Korea", Henry also finally debuted as a solo artist in Korea. He would be SM Entertainment's first male solo artist in 13 years!

Henry's first solo mini album, "Trap", was released in June of 2013 featuring the title song "Trap".
