줄거리:

  Have you ever wondered what your dreams are or what they used to be? Have you ever asked your family members or friends what they dreamed of when they were little? The recent hit movie “Dancing Queen” looks into this question through a married couple who try to discover their long-lost dreams.
  
  The film begins with a scene of an elementary school boy Jeong-min telling of his dream to become the president in front of his whole class. His classmates, including a girl named Jeong-hwa, all laugh at him. Years later, Jeong-min and Jeong-hwa, who are both now college students, bump into each other in a bus. Then the story unfolds rather quickly. They fall in love and get married, and while the happily-ever-after tale seems to end here, the real story actually has just begun.
  
  Jeong-hwa ends up as an ordinary housewife, teaching aerobics at a local gym. Jeong-min, on the other hand, is a sloppy, low-earning lawyer who tries to make ends meet. One day, the couple’s lives take a twist when Jeong-hwa is offered a chance to fulfill her childhood dream of becoming a singer and dancer. She joins a four-woman band, but she keeps her newfound career secret from her husband. Meanwhile, Jeong-min ends up becoming a candidate for Seoul mayor after he became an accidental hero by saving a man’s life on a subway platform, purely by chance. Although he never really intended to enter politics, he feels his heart pounding as he is cast to become a mayoral candidate. His childhood dream was to become a president, after all. Of course, he doesn’t have the slightest idea what his wife is doing behind closed doors. Now, Jeong-hwa is in a dilemma. She must be an elegant wife of a mayoral candidate on one hand, while pursuing her long-lost dream of becoming a singer and enthusiastic dancer on stage on the other hand. Her husband’s decision to run for mayor endangers her dual life as a sexy pop diva and devoted wife of a politician, and vice versa. Will both be able to stick to their dreams in the end?
  
  The light-hearted movie does have many hilarious scenes and witty dialogues, but it isn’t always bright and cheery. When Jeong-hwa’s daughter tells her mom that she doesn’t want to live like her as a housewife, Jeong-hwa is shocked and embarrassed. Perhaps many mothers watching the scene may feel the same way. Also, when Jeong-hwa tries to explain how important it is to fulfill her dream, her husband doesn’t understand it at first. She asks him if he really wants their daughter to give up everything to support her husband only. Many husbands take it for granted that their wives are devoted solely to their husbands and children, but they probably do not want their own daughters or sisters to live like that. It is a compelling movie exploring the meaning of family. It makes the viewer ponder whether they are really grateful to the people around them.
  
  Interestingly, both of the lead characters are named after the actor’s and the actress’s real names, Hwang Jeong-min and Uhm Jeong-hwa. It is also amusing to see famous stars such as sexy singer and icon Lee Hyo-ri and rapper Gill making cameo appearances in the movie.
